Update on Botswana Visa

by dhammett on November 8, 2010

After not hearing anything on our application for over 5 months now, we decided to move to the next step of talking to the Immigration Dept directly in the capitol, Gaborone. So we headed out at 5AM this morning for a 4 1/2 hr trip to see what we could find out. After being sent around to 3 different offices and numerous workers we concluded the following…I need to use the proper terminology, a Residence Permit. Leave it to an American to mess that one up. 🙂
I also was able to find out that the paperwork is at present ‘lost’. The folks at the Embassy in Washington submitted it, but the folks at Immigration were not able to locate it. This is really good news…now I know where to begin in the process!
This took 4 hours of standing in cues to get to the bottom of this, and then another 5 1/2 hours to drive home due to traffic and animals on the road. Needless to say we are exhaused!
But we were excited to get home and find our internet connection is somewhat functional tonight after going out after a terrible storm 3 days ago.
So I am encouraged that we at least have some knowledge of what is happening now and the hopefully have found the right office and people to deal with in Gaborone.
Please continue to pray with us that we can get this needed paperwork finalized and the Resident Permit approved to allow us to do gospel work unhindered in this country.
